You’ll know when your child is not a baby anymore. He may be feeling moody about the decor of the baby’s room he’s using. One great thing that a parent can do when he notices these changes is to suggest a total makeover for the nursery. Your child has more needs now that he’s growing up. This is particularly true if your child is in middle school. Keep reading…
A home improvement project like this need not be expensive. To save money, you can construct some of the furnitures yourself, like the study table, the computer table, the bed frame and the cabinets. You can DIY almost anything these days, with kits for loft beds, bed frames, cabinets and study tables available in almost all hardware shops. You can do this over the weekend.
Space is of the essence when we’re talking about a growing child’s room. He will need space for his toy collection, and more space to entertain his friends.
Loft Beds
A loft bed is the best option if you want to create a study nook for your child inside his room. To build a loft bed, you will need a kit and a lot of patience when trying to find the best position for the bed. Assembling the bed inside the room is preferable to assembling it outside the room and hoping that the finished product will fit through the door frame.
A good suggestion is to have full-size loft bed for the room.
Folding Table and Chairs
Children of neighbors, as well as classmates, will be dropping by to hang with your child. This is the main reason why you should think of socialization when renovating your child’s room. Foldable chairs are great to have around, and tables are always useful if you’re serving lemonade inside the room. This is also to conserve floor space just in case the kids want to sit in front of the console or create their projects on the floor.
Study Nook
It’s difficult to make assignments when the only desk inside your child’s room has a computer monitor on it. Not all kids prefer working on homework on the kitchen or dining table. Because of this, a separate table for homeworks is recommended.
Ventilation Using Ceiling Fans
If you’re installing a ceiling fan in your child’s room, get the ones with thin blades so that the air circulates faster. Ornate, decorative ceiling fans are for the living room. Plain color and quiet are the characteristics you want in a ceiling fan if you want it to remain almost invisible in your child’s room. Installing a remote control ceiling fan is also recommended.
You will also need to allow your child some independence when it comes to bedroom decor. Keep the walls bare so he can mount posters of his favorite cartoon characters or idols.
